On July 23, 2016, Acoustic Garden was reintroduced to the Atlanta metro for the first time since 2007. It was held at Gallery 992, 992 Ralph David Abernathy, Atlanta, GA, located in the Historic West End. Acoustic Garden, hosted by world-renowned, Peabody Award winning poet ABYSS, is an experience...an environment where strangers don't exist...a place for music lovers to come and soak up the soulful sounds of artists from around the country. It's filled with good energy, positive vibes and amazing talent.
"Tonight was an amazing night. We enjoyed every act. I was blessed and entertained. The food was great and I felt right at home. Being a psychotherapist, we always discuss therapy through art...tonight I was changed... Thank you Acoustic Garden!" -Nichole G.
The show started around 9:30 and kept the audience engaged from start to finish. The show opened with Red Storm, an internationally known HBO Def poet out of Chicago, IL who now resides in Atlanta.
The first feature of the evening was the sweet, soulful Shanice Green. Shanice started her set with a short Om exercise to get everyone on the same frequency. Accompanied by her acoustic guitar, she has a voice that soothes the soul...it just makes you feel good! She blessed us with covers and an original song.
Next up was Mark Rock Nelson accompanied by his keyboard. This gentleman has the sweetest spirit and voice that will lull the angels in heaven. He performed a few of his favorite originals from his current project "Acoustic Intimacy" about love and relationships. At the request of ABYSS, he did his arrangement of Brian McKnight's Never Felt This Way and the crowd went crazy! It was an amazing experience to witness him pour his soul into his music.
The next artist to grace the stage was a pleasant surprise...Tamika "Georgia Me" Harper! Georgia Me, a Tony and Peabody Award winning spoken word artist, born and raised in Southwest Atlanta. She has a heart of gold and unapologetically gives the people her unadulterated self 100% of the time. She takes real life situations and turns them into spoken word form in a way that only she can do, with gut-punching reality and comedic undertones.
Next up was Kevin Sandbloom, all the way from Los Angeles. If you've never witnessed Sandbloom hit the stage, you are missing a treat! He is a soulful songwriter with voice of gold, accompanied by his guitar. He travels from coast to coast sharing this God-given talent winning hearts everywhere he goes. He shared some of his original work from his new project and closed out with one of my favorites Sade's Is It A Crime in his own way! His new project Deep Sparkle will be released on 8/12/16 and is available for pre-order on www.redllamamusic.com
Just before the last featured artist, ABYSS had one more surprise...Berryz Bridge! Berryz Bridge is made up of dynamic duo Doug Berry, a phenomenal guitarist and Bridgette Levi, a vocal powerhouse that can move mountains. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with. Filled with passion, the kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Based in Atlanta, they can be found at various festivals throughout the metro and venues along the east coast.
The last featured artist for the evening was Chavis Flagg... This 20 year old phenomenon made a statement with his very note. Chavis is a young, highly energetic vocalist with a love and passion for his art that is visible from miles away. Whenever he hits the stage, it's noticeable that he loves what he does. His original music is inspirational and gives hope and his covers are arranged in his own way. I'm looking forward to seeing what he shows the world next. He is definitely an artist to watch.
Although the last feature wrapped up his set, the show was not over! The crowd would have been disappointed if ABYSS had not graced the stage and blessed them with a piece or two. It was the end of the night...the energy was high, everyone had shaken off the troubles of the day and was in good spirits. ABYSS came on stage high-powered, spitting "hot lyrics, with a cold flow" and closed out the show on high note!
To wrap things up... this event was everything I expected it to be. A place where old friends make new friends and enjoy good food and entertainment. ABYSS looks high and low for eclectic artists that the world need to see and sprinkles a few treats along the way. You won't find anything ordinary or mediocre at Acoustic Garden. Every event is an experience that you will never forget. It's a platform for indie artists to showcase their talents to an audience that may have never heard of them before. The next event is scheduled for August 27, 2016. Don't miss it!
